The centres provide all families with young children aged up to five with access to quality early years provision and other health and family support services, plus support for their children's transition from home into school. Staff also support parents looking to return to work or training. Centres are run by local authority early years departments.

Although a centre acts as a focal point, services are also located in various places across the local community in venues which are convenient for families, such as schools, community centres, health centres and private nurseries.

The £500,000 Kippax centre is based in buildings formally used by the primary school.

It includes a reception area, office space, a counselling room and a large multi-use community room.

There is also a playroom for children, a kitchen and a children's "magical garden".

Extra facilities to house extended services have also been built at Kippax Greenfield Primary.
